Internationally bestselling superstar author Angie Thomas makes her middle grade debut with the launch of a new contemporary fantasy trilogy inspired by African American history and folklore. It's not easy being a Remarkable in the Unremarkable world. Some things are cool - like getting a pet hellhound for your twelfth birthday. Others, not so much - like not being trusted to learn magic because you might use it to take revenge on an annoying neighbour. All Nic Blake wants is to be a powerful Manifestor like her dad. But before she has a chance to convince him to teach her the gift, a series of shocking revelations and terrifying events launch Nic and two friends on a hunt for a powerful magic tool she's never heard of ... to save her father from imprisonment for a crime she refuses to believe he committed. Praise for Angie Thomas: No. 1 New York Times Bestselling author Winner of the Waterstones Children's Book Award Winner of Children's Book of the Year at The British Book Awards Winner of the Amnesty CILIP Honour for the Carnegie Medal "No one else who writes like Angie. Phenomenal." The Guardian "Thomas has given a voice to her generation." Stylist "Unflinching yet accessible." Dazed "Witty, generous and real." Entertainment Weekly "Stunning, brilliant, gut-wrenching." John Green "Paints a deeply emotional and intricate picture of race and class." Variety "Undeniably wondrous." Woman's Way

Who wouldn't want a hellhound for their 12th birthday??

Liz Paper Plus Hastings - April 2023

A new fantasy story for younger readers from Angie Thomas that is quite frankly awesome. We already know the author is brilliant (The Hate U Give,Concrete Rose On the Come Up) but this is something very different but just as special. Nic lives with her Dad and longs for a family and to learn to use her Gift. A Gift she must keep secret because Nic is a Remarkable a powerful one at that. It's hard being a Remarkable in an Unremarkable world.
