There is no one on earth quite so wonderful' STEPHEN FRY BAFTA-winning actor, voice of everything from Monkey to the Cadbury's Caramel Rabbit, creator of a myriad of unforgettable characters from Lady Whiteadder to Professor Sprout, MIRIAM MARGOLYES, OBE, is the nation's favourite (and naughtiest) treasure. Now, at the age of 80, she has finally decided to tell her extraordinary life story - and it's well worth the wait. Find out how being conceived in an air-raid gave her curly hair; what pranks led to her being known as the naughtiest girl Oxford High School ever had; how she ended up posing nude for Augustus John as a teenager; why Bob Monkhouse was the best (male) kiss she's ever had; and what happened next after Warren Beatty asked 'Do you fuck?' From declaring her love to Vanessa Redgrave to being told to be quiet by the Queen, this book is packed with brilliant, hilarious stories. With a cast list stretching from Scorsese to Streisand, a cross-dressing Leonardo di Caprio to Isaiah Berlin, This Much Is True is as warm and honest, as full of life and surprises, as its inimitable author.

a true legend and a timely memoir

Sue - Paper Plus Masterton - November 2021

Award-winning, favoured actress and veteran of stage and screen – Miriam Margolyes has morphed into a myriad of characters over decades and has a formidable persona that is no-nonsense. “I have no secrets. I decided very early on in life that the strongest position was to be completely open…” says Miriam. She’s lived a full life and now she reflects on her eighty years of life. “Find out how being conceived in an air-raid gave her curly hair; what pranks led to Miriam being known as the naughtiest girl ever to be educated at Oxford High School…this memoir takes you on an extraordinary adventure through a truly independent mind and life.” I’m sure fans will recall their favourite role – there are so many across, film, television and stage. A personal favourite was her role as Aunt Prudence in the Phryne Fisher Murder Mysteries. Her notable roles include: An Age of Innocence, Professor Sprout in Harry Potter, one of the spiteful aunts in James and The Giant Peach, on stage with the original cast of Wicked, on screen in Call the Midwife, Blackadder and Little Dorrit too. I don’t do her career justice with this short review – she has numerous awards, nominations and dramatic parts. A true legend and a timely memoir.
