Losing their 15-year-old daughter in the Pyrenees wasn't the ideal start to the Bardens' Camino. Travelling for 12 weeks through 10 countries and walking over 1,000km with 3 kids was bound to have some challenges though. Join Erika and her family as they navigate bustling Singaporean markets, meet family in Germany, Ireland, and America, and explore ancient Italy. Experience the highlight of their epic adventure by sharing in the peaks and plateaux of their Camino de Santiago. Marvel as they overcome sunstroke and stomach bugs, bedbugs and blisters, to appreciate life's simple pleasures: food, family and good footwear. Let A Kiwi Camino inspire your journey of discovery.

A family story of endurance and rewards

Robynne - July 2025

Erika is a very clever writer with the ability to make every scene you experience visible to the reader. What a journey they had! Those kids will remember it forever. The Camino was a real endurance test but produced great rewards. A fascinating book. I give it five stars and encourage you to read it too.

Erika's writing style is humorous and open, really letting you get to know her and her family as they make their pilgrimage together. This book makes a lovely gift for others too.

A great read

Denise - July 2025

Amazing to follow this kiwi family on their travels and the Camino.

A wonderful Kiwi story of resilience and determination.

Armchair Adventurer - June 2025

I felt like I was walking alongside this family on their way to Santiago and around Europe and America. Personal stories and photographs bring the Camino to life, and make this so much more than a travel book. Erika made walking 1,000km with her kids sound fun, and now I want to create amazing memories for my kids too!
