A world expert presents a sympathetic exploration of the causes of trauma and the new treatments making it possible for sufferers to reclaim their lives What causes people to continually relive what they most want to forget, and what treatments could help restore them to a life with purpose and joy? Here, Dr Bessel van der Kolk offers a new paradigm for effectively treating traumatic stress. Neither talking nor drug therapies have proven entirely satisfactory. I had to buy this book for myself after borrowing my brother-in-law's. Incredibly easy to read despite covering very academic subject matter. Finally makes sense of the mind and bodies' response to trauma and PTSD. Cannot recommend enough

Completely over rated

I purchased this book as it was highly recommended. More of a doctors biography and a lot of reference back to soldiers and little help for cptsd . As a woman looking to learn about trauma and where we fit into the world and society we his offers little insight a very drawn out read.
