Contemporary romance's unicorn: the elusive marriage of deeply brainy and delightfully escapist.' Christina Lauren, New York Times bestselling author of The Unhoneymooners When a fake relationship between scientists meets the irresistible force of attraction, it throws one woman's carefully calculated theories on love into chaos. As a third-year Ph.D. candidate, Olive Smith doesn't believe in lasting romantic relationships but her best friend does, and that's what got her into this situation. Convincing Anh that Olive on her way to a happily ever after was always going to be tough, scientists require proof. So, like any self-respecting woman, Olive panics and kisses the first man she sees. That man is none other than Adam Carlsen, a young hotshot professor and well-known ass. Which is why Olive is positively floored when he agrees to keep her charade a secret and be her fake boyfriend. But when a big science conference goes haywire and Adam surprises her again with his unyielding support (and his unyielding abs), their little experiment feels dangerously close to combustion. Olive soon discovers that the only thing more complicated than a hypothesis on love is putting her own heart under the microscope.

This will make you believe in love again!

Jo - June 2022

Olive is a medical student doing her Phd with a particular interest in pancreatic cancer. She loves what she does and this is also a very personal journey for her, having lost someone in her life to this awful disease. Life as a 3rd year means minimal income and hours of time in the labs and studying. This does not leave much time for a social life and Olive is happy with that, the last thing she needs to add to her life is being in a relationship with someone. When Olive’s best friend Anh indicates she is quite keen on a guy that used to date Olive she decides to help things along. After telling Anh that she is in fact out dating again and that she should definitely not feel funny about dating her ex, she then finds herself in a predicament to prove her point. Olive tells Anh she is out on a date when she is actually at one of the science labs, when Anh comes along Olive grabs the first guy she sees and kisses him. She needs it to look like she is at the lab with her date. Very spontaneous and completely unlike Olive to do this but what takes it to the next level of awkward is that she has kissed one of the young Professor’s - Adam Carlsen. He is known among the students as being a complete arsehole and most of them fear him. Ooops! Now that she has started something, she needs to find a way out of it - quickly. However, Adam surprises her by agreeing to be her pretend boyfriend as it will be mutually beneficial for them both. He needs to prove to his superiors that he is settled in his job and has no plans to leave once he finishes his studies. They both have something to gain here so the charade begins. I absolutely love how this all played out. Being around Olive brought a whole lot of unexpected feelings and behaviours for Adam. I love how he was so protective of her and his genuine interest in her success. These two were super cute and everything just naturally evolved into something so vulnerable and sweet. This was the perfect story at the perfect time for me :) Well wasn’t this one of the most wonderful reads I’ve enjoyed this year :) If you are looking for a story that will give you all the lovely book
