Bearded, bad-boy barber Knox prefers to live his life the way he takes his coffee: Alone. Unless you count his basset hound, Waylon. Knox doesn't tolerate drama, even when it comes in the form of a stranded runaway bride. Naomi wasn't just running away from her wedding. She was riding to the rescue of her estranged twin to Knockemout, Virginia, a rough-around-the-edges town where disputes are settled the old-fashioned way . . . with fists and beer. Usually in that order. Too bad for Naomi her evil twin hasn't changed at all. After helping herself to Naomi's car and cash, Tina leaves her with something unexpected. The niece Naomi didn't know she had. Now she's stuck in town with no car, no job, no plan, and no home with an 11-year-old going on thirty to take care of. There's a reason Knox doesn't do complications or high-maintenance women, especially not the romantic ones. But since Naomi's life imploded right in front of him, the least he can do is help her out of her jam. And just as soon as she stops getting into new trouble he can leave her alone and get back to his peaceful, solitary life. At least, that's the plan until the trouble turns to real danger.

There is so much happening in this story!

Jo - October 2022

Naomi is getting married but she is so riddled with doubts that she has a change of mind, better to figure it out now than after the marriage license is signed right? After getting an sos phone call from her identical twin sister, she becomes a runaway bride about to show up in Knockemout, Virginia. It would be a huge understatement to say that her sister Tina has more than burnt her bridges with the people of this town. When they first meet Naomi she feels the wrath of the burn when people assume she is her sister. If they only knew what she had been through in the last 12 hours they surely wouldn’t be so cold towards her right? Trying to find her pesky sister does not go well, in fact she ends up with less than she first arrived into town with when her car, all the cash she has goes missing. It’s okay though her sister does a trade for all she took - her 11 year old daughter Waylay. Now she is stuck in a town, with no money, no car, nowhere to live, no job and a child to take care of. Oh and let’s not forget her jilted groom. Knox doesn’t do drama but when he lands in the middle of Naomi’s chaotic arrival in Knockemout, he finds himself jumping in to help her. His main concern is Waylay, lord knows the young girl deserves more stability in her life. Naomi may end up being the best thing to happen to her. Knox lives a daily quiet life, it’s just him and his dog. He owns the local bar and prefers to live under the radar. It’s a stress free life for the most part. Naomi’s arrival disrupts his routined lifestyle but he seems to be drawn to her. He can’t seem to figure it out but she has taken up space in his head and he looks forward to spending time with her. Knox is not a relationshippy person and he makes that clear to Naomi when the friendship crosses into mutually beneficial schmexy times. Knox hasn’t experienced what he has feeling before and he knows that at some point he will need to end things, before feelings get involved. You know how that works out right? There is so much happening in this story, fabulous banter, a sexy gruff man gruff man who has a soft gooey inside, the small town gossip train and wonderful secondary characters just added to the overall story. I don’t know why I haven’t read more books by this author but I won’t be missing out on any more from now on.
